Mt Rushmore

I know its been a while since I have posted anything but I think I am going to try and post more. Which means I am going to to try to take more pictures of my life.

So a few months back I took a trip with my Mom to go see Mt. Rushmore. My desire to go see Mt. Rushmore I think started a kid. It was weird to me that we cut people's faces into a side of a mountain. But really made me determined to go was watching National Treasure 2. I also started to think of all the national monuments that I have not seen and that most Americans haven't seen.

It was a really fun trip and a cool experience to walk around. We also went to see the Crazy Horse Monument. It is not finished but when it is it will be an incredible sight to see. Also the compound that its on will be an awesome place of education about Native Americans. I hope it will be finished in my life time so I can take my kids to see it...even if it costs $20 dollars a person to get in.

The drive up to Mt Rushmore is also cool...the way we drove up to it was from the back so you don't see it until you are almost on it and grounds are well kept and walking up to it is indescribable. I tried really hard to get my hopes up cause I didn't want to be disappointed and I wasn't. I was amazed at how close you can get to the 4 iconic men's faces.

The walk around the amphitheater was good but I wish we went the other way cause the way we went we had to climb a lot of stairs. I was a little disappointed that we could not go into the secret vault behind the faces...but I guess I will just have to get a job in Government to see what is in it.

So we went to see Mt. Rushmore during the day and were told that we needed to go back to the lighting ceremony at sun down. I am so glad we didn't miss it. The governor of South Dakota was there and gave a speech about our brave troops and there was a tribute to all the service members who died who were from South Dakota. He asked all the people who were active and non active duty to come up on the stage while they played the national anthem. It was really touching.

Over all it was a great experience and I was really happy that I got to send some time with my Mom. I will always remember this trip. Here are some photos of that trip.
